Tools
A hydraulic crimping tool and a heavy duty cable cutter. Two tools, both the right one for the job.
The cutter shears rather than pinches, so the conductor bundle stays round and the lug goes on square. A hacksaw or side cutters flatten the end, and a flattened end never fills the barrel properly.
If you only need a handful of leads made up, it is cheaper to let us crimp them: the configurator costs a fraction of the tool. Buy the tool when you are doing a whole boat, or doing this for a living.
